Last updated 10th November 2009

The NHS Employers' annual conference and exhibition took place last week at the ICC in Birmingham from Tuesday 3 - Thursday 5 November. The event attracted over 1400 delegates, exhibitors and speakers for three days of information sharing, problems solving and networking.

Raffaela Goodby, Employee Engagement Manager, and Bella Jones, Communications manager, led a session talking to over 125 delegates on the Birmingham BEST employee engagement approach, under one of the conferences key themes of 'Staff Engagement'.

Steven Weeks, NHS Policy Manager and organiser of the staff engagement sessions at the NHS conference said "The NHS is keen to share experiences of on how best to engage employees and the BEST programme leading the way for public services"

Raffaela said 'the engagement challenges that both our organisations face are very similar. Both the NHS and Local Government face financial challenges, and yet strive to achieve the highest levels of service delivery. Effective staff engagement can drive the productivity, innovation and creativity needed in order to make this happen effectively. We were very pleased to be able to share our experience with our NHS colleagues"

Staff Engagement in the NHS The NHS staff survey shows that trusts still face challenges communicating effectively with staff and helping them to feel valued. This strand will identify key lessons from the survey and share good practice examples of trusts engaging with their staff to help deliver better services.
